Itineraries & Planning

Costa Rica itineraries and trip planning with Green Tours CR

Planning Costa Rica can feel overwhelming because every route looks beautiful, but not every route makes sense. Green Tours CR helps you turn your wish list into a realistic, smooth, and enjoyable itinerary with tours, transfers, boat connections, rental car guidance, and honest local advice.

Costa Rica Itineraries & Trip Planning

Costa Rica is small, but travel days can be longer than expected. Mountains, rain, ferries, boat routes, winding roads, check-in times, and national park schedules can all affect your plan. A good itinerary is not only about choosing beautiful places — it is about choosing the right order, the right pace, and the right experiences for your group.

With Green Tours CR, you get help from people who understand the routes, the tour logistics, the real travel times, and the difference between a trip that looks good on paper and a trip that actually feels good while you are here.

What We Help You Plan

Custom Itineraries

We help organize your trip by destination, number of days, pace, interests, and travel style. The goal is a plan that feels natural, not overloaded.

Tours & Activities

We help match your group with the right tours: waterfalls, wildlife, rafting, volcano hikes, catamarans, night walks, canals, hot springs, beaches, and local experiences.

Private Transfers

We help coordinate private transportation between airports, hotels, beaches, La Fortuna, Guanacaste, Tortuguero docks, San José, and other key routes.

Rental Car Guidance

Some trips are better with a rental car. Others are smoother with transfers. We help you decide honestly based on your route, comfort, luggage, and travel days.

Tortuguero Connections

Tortuguero requires special planning because there is no road access. We help with La Pavona boat tickets, Moín boat transportation, secure parking, private boats, and dock transfers.

Family & Group Planning

Traveling with children, older adults, or a mixed group takes extra care. We help balance adventure, comfort, travel time, and realistic daily pacing.

How Our Planning Process Works

1. Share Your Trip Details

Tell us your dates, arrival and departure airports, places you want to visit, group size, ages, interests, budget range, and travel style.

2. We Review the Route

We look at what makes sense geographically, where you may be backtracking, where you need more time, and which routes need transfers, boats, or rental car planning.

3. We Suggest the Best Experiences

Instead of giving a random list, we recommend tours and activities that fit the region, your energy level, your group, and the time you actually have.

4. You Approve What Works

We help organize the pieces you want: tours, transfers, boat tickets, parking, rental car options, and local support. You stay in control of the final plan.

Local planning note: the best Costa Rica itinerary is not the busiest one. It is the one that gives you great experiences without turning every day into a rush.

Popular Costa Rica Itinerary Styles

Classic Nature Route

A balanced trip with places like Tortuguero, La Fortuna, Monteverde, Guanacaste, or Manuel Antonio. Great for first-time visitors who want wildlife, rainforest, beaches, and volcano landscapes.

Family Adventure Trip

A mix of safe adventure, wildlife, waterfalls, beach time, cultural stops, and transportation that does not exhaust the family. Perfect for groups with children or teens.

Wildlife & Rainforest Focus

Ideal for travelers who care more about nature than nightlife. Tortuguero, Bijagua, La Fortuna, Monteverde, and rainforest activities can fit well depending on your route.

Beach + Adventure Combo

A strong option for guests staying in Guanacaste or the Pacific coast who want catamarans, waterfalls, rafting, ATV, beach hopping, and relaxed ocean time.

Off-the-Path Costa Rica

For travelers who want quieter, more local, less crowded experiences. We can include hidden waterfalls, local communities, rural nature, unique wildlife areas, and smaller destinations.

Soft Nature & Comfort

For guests who want nature without intense hikes. Think scenic boat tours, easy rainforest walks, hot springs, viewpoints, local food, private transfers, and flexible timing.

Regions We Commonly Help Connect

Every region has its own rhythm. We help you connect the places that fit your trip without underestimating the travel days.

  • Guanacaste: beaches, catamarans, waterfalls, adventure tours, rafting, ATV, wildlife boat safaris, and easy airport access through Liberia.
  • Tortuguero: canals, rainforest, turtle nesting season, canoe and kayak tours, night walks, Jaguar Trail, boat tickets, and dock logistics.
  • La Fortuna / Arenal: volcano views, hanging bridges, hot springs, waterfalls, rafting, chocolate and coffee experiences, night walks, ziplining, and ATV.
  • Monteverde: cloud forest, birding, hanging bridges, night walks, ziplining, and cooler mountain weather.
  • Manuel Antonio: beaches, national park wildlife, coastal rainforest, catamarans, waterfalls, and Pacific views.
  • Southern Caribbean: Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, Limón, and Moín boat connections to Tortuguero.
  • San José: airport arrivals, overnight connections, private transfers, and routes toward La Fortuna, Tortuguero, Manuel Antonio, or the Pacific.

Planning tip: do not build your route only from a map. In Costa Rica, the distance may look short, but the road can be slow. Ask before locking in your hotels.

What Makes a Costa Rica Itinerary Work Well?

A good Costa Rica itinerary has balance. It avoids too many one-night stays, leaves enough time for travel, keeps adventure days realistic, and respects weather, nature, and local logistics.

  • Enough time in each region to actually enjoy it.
  • Smart route order with less backtracking.
  • Good balance between tours, rest, and travel days.
  • Transportation that fits your comfort level.
  • Tour choices based on your location, not just popularity.
  • Realistic expectations for wildlife and weather.
  • Flexible backup options when nature changes the plan.

Honest advice: trying to see everything often makes the trip worse. Costa Rica is better when you choose well, slow down a little, and let each place breathe.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Green Tours CR create a full Costa Rica itinerary?

Yes. We can help shape your route, suggest tours, coordinate private transfers, guide you on rental cars, and organize key experiences depending on your dates and destinations.

Do you book hotels?

We focus mainly on tours, transfers, transportation logistics, boat connections, rental car guidance, and itinerary structure. We can give general planning advice, but hotel booking is usually handled directly by the traveler.

Can you help if we already booked some hotels?

Yes. Send us what you already have, and we can help organize tours and transportation around your confirmed route.

Can you help with Tortuguero logistics?

Yes. Tortuguero requires boat planning. We can help with La Pavona boat tickets, Moín one-way transportation, private boats, secure La Pavona parking, transfers to the dock, and Tortuguero tours.

Should we rent a car or use private transfers?

It depends on your route. Private transfers are better for long travel days and airport arrivals. Rental cars are helpful for local exploring and flexible beach stays. Many trips work best with a mix.

How many destinations should we visit?

It depends on your trip length. For most travelers, fewer destinations with better timing is better than too many short stops. Send us your dates and we can suggest a realistic pace.

Frequently Asked Questions About Green Tours CR

Clear answers about our tours, transfers, boat tickets, parking, rental car support, itinerary planning, and local travel help in Costa Rica.

General Services

What services does Green Tours CR offer?

Green Tours CR offers nature and adventure tours, private transfers, Tortuguero boat tickets and parking, private boats, rental car support, custom itinerary planning, and local off-the-path experiences in Costa Rica.

Where in Costa Rica do you work?

We mainly work in Guanacaste, Tortuguero, La Fortuna / Arenal, and Manuel Antonio. We also support Monteverde, Caribbean connections, San José, Liberia, and custom routes around Costa Rica through trusted local partners.

Does Green Tours CR operate every tour directly?

Some services are operated directly by Green Tours CR, while others are provided with selected local guides, drivers, or partner operators. The goal is to keep the experience human, reliable, and well coordinated with people who know each area.

Do website prices include taxes?

Product pages show the base price and, when applicable, the system displays VAT or tax details. Please review the cart summary before paying to confirm the final total.

How can I book a tour or service?

You can book directly on our website, or message us on WhatsApp if you need help choosing before you reserve. For general support, contact +506 7209 8971 or info@greentourscr.com.

Can I pay in cash on the day of the tour?

Reservations are made with advance payment through the website or through the method coordinated with Green Tours CR. We do not recommend leaving a reservation unpaid because guides, transportation, spaces, and logistics must be arranged in advance.

Do you guarantee wildlife sightings?

No. We work with real nature, so we cannot guarantee specific animals. What we do is work with local guides who know the trails, habitats, timing, and respectful ways to observe wildlife.

What happens if it rains?

Rain is a normal part of Costa Rica. Many tours operate with light rain, but activities like rafting, catamaran, boats, kayaking, or guided walks may be adjusted for safety depending on weather, rivers, tides, or local operation.

Guanacaste

What tours do you offer in Guanacaste?

In Guanacaste we offer waterfalls, volcanoes, hot springs, rafting, catamaran cruises, snorkeling, ATV, beach hopping, wildlife safaris, cultural tours, and full-day excursions.

Do Guanacaste tours include transportation?

Most Guanacaste tours include transportation within the standard pickup area, from Peninsula Papagayo south to Playa Potrero north. ATV, catamaran, and private boat tours have different pickup or meeting-point details explained on each product page.

What areas can you pick up from in Guanacaste?

We commonly work with hotels, villas, Airbnbs, and resorts in the Guanacaste tourism corridor. The standard area includes places such as Papagayo, Hermosa, Coco, Ocotal, Matapalo, Flamingo, Potrero, and nearby zones, depending on the tour.

What Guanacaste tour is best for families?

It depends on ages and activity level. Palo Verde, Beach Hopping, Bijagua, catamaran cruises, some waterfalls, and nature tours often work well for families. More active families may enjoy rafting, ATV, or full adventure days.

Is Palo Verde good for seeing sloths?

We do not recommend Palo Verde as a sloth tour. Palo Verde is better for crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, and birds along the river and dry forest. For sloths, we usually recommend other habitats with better chances.

La Fortuna / Arenal

What tours do you offer in La Fortuna / Arenal?

In La Fortuna / Arenal we offer volcano hikes, hanging bridges, safari floats, waterfalls, coffee and chocolate tours, night walks, rafting, tubing, ziplining, ATV, sloth watching, and experiences around Arenal Volcano.

Is La Fortuna good for families?

Yes. La Fortuna is one of the most complete areas for families because it combines nature, soft adventure, hot springs, waterfalls, wildlife, local farms, and activities with different levels of effort.

What La Fortuna activity is good for wildlife without a hard hike?

The Peñas Blancas safari float is often a good choice for calm nature, river scenery, forest, and wildlife without a difficult hike. Sloth walks and softer guided nature tours can also work depending on the group.

Tortuguero

What tours do you offer in Tortuguero?

In Tortuguero we offer canoe and kayak canal tours, night walks, Jaguar Trail, Tortuguero Hill, wildlife experiences, and turtle nesting tours during the main season.

Where do Tortuguero tours start?

Tortuguero tours normally depart from the main dock in Tortuguero unless something different is clearly stated on the product page or confirmation.

Do I need a SINAC ticket for Tortuguero tours?

Some tours inside Tortuguero National Park require a SINAC entrance ticket purchased online. The Night Walk does not use that same park ticket, and Tortuguero Hill has different conditions. Always review the product page before booking.

When do you offer the turtle nesting tour in Tortuguero?

Green Tours CR offers the Tortuguero turtle nesting tour during the main season, from July 1 to October 31. Outside those dates, we do not recommend it as a regular experience because sightings are much harder.

Do you also sell Tortuguero boat tickets and parking?

Yes. We offer La Pavona ↔ Tortuguero boat tickets, secure parking at La Pavona, private boats, and Moín boat transportation for Caribbean connections.

What is the difference between La Pavona and Moín?

La Pavona is the main access route to Tortuguero for most travelers. Moín is better for travelers connecting Tortuguero with the Caribbean coast, such as Limón, Cahuita, or Puerto Viejo.

Can a car drive directly to Tortuguero?

No. Tortuguero does not have direct road access. Travelers usually reach La Pavona or Moín by land and continue by boat to Tortuguero.

Manuel Antonio

Do you offer tours in Manuel Antonio?

Yes. In Manuel Antonio we offer Manuel Antonio National Park guided walks, tropical forest night walks, Savegre and Naranjo rafting, Isla Damas mangrove kayak and boat tours, catamaran, snorkeling, and wildlife experiences.

Who coordinates Manuel Antonio tours?

In Manuel Antonio, we work with Bayron Gonzáles as Green Tours CR’s local representative. For area-specific questions, you can contact him on WhatsApp at +506 7169 7081.

Do Manuel Antonio tours include transportation?

It depends on the tour. Some include transportation from selected Manuel Antonio / Quepos locations, while others are meeting-point tours. The Manuel Antonio National Park Guided Walk is offered as a meeting-point tour at the main park entrance.

Which Manuel Antonio tour is best for families?

Families often enjoy the Manuel Antonio National Park Guided Walk, Isla Damas Mangrove Boat Tour, and Catamaran & Snorkeling Tour. More active families may also enjoy Savegre River rafting.

What is the difference between Savegre and Naranjo rafting?

Savegre is usually more scenic and moderate, ideal for families or first-time rafters. Naranjo is stronger and more adrenaline-focused, recommended for active travelers who are comfortable with more intense rapids.

Are Isla Damas mangrove tour times fixed?

Not always. Isla Damas kayak and boat tours depend on the tide, so the schedule is confirmed based on your date and the conditions of the day.

Monteverde, Itineraries & Special Experiences

Do you also help with Monteverde?

Yes. We can help with Monteverde activities such as cloud forest walks, hanging bridges, canopy, night walks, nature reserves, and partner experiences. In Monteverde, transportation is usually quoted separately if you do not have a way to reach the activity location.

What is Off The Path?

Off The Path is our space for more local, quieter, or less mass-market experiences: hidden waterfalls, family projects, rural walks, small reserves, local operators, and places with a more authentic connection to Costa Rica.

Do you create custom itineraries?

Yes. We help plan realistic routes with tours, transfers, boats, rental car options, and travel timing. Costa Rica looks small on the map, but some routes take longer than expected, so local planning makes a big difference.

Do you book hotels?

Green Tours CR focuses on tours, transfers, boats, rental car support, and travel planning. We can suggest areas or general hotel ideas when useful for the route, but guests normally book lodging directly.

Transfers, Rental Cars & Logistics

Do you offer private transfers in Costa Rica?

Yes. We coordinate private transfers between airports, hotels, Airbnbs, villas, beaches, national parks, docks, San José, Liberia, La Fortuna, Guanacaste, Tortuguero, and other destinations depending on the itinerary.

What information do you need to quote a transfer?

We need pickup location, drop-off location, date, preferred time, number of passengers, luggage details, flight number if applicable, and any special needs such as child seats, stops, or oversized luggage.

Is a private transfer or rental car better?

It depends on the route. Private transfers are ideal for long travel days, airport arrivals, and destination-to-destination connections. A rental car may be better if you plan to spend several days exploring beaches, restaurants, supermarkets, and stops at your own pace.

Do you help with rental cars?

Yes. Green Tours CR has a partner link to check rental car options and prices, and we can also guide you on what vehicle type makes sense based on your route, luggage, and travel style.

Can you help us choose the right tour?

Yes. Send us your dates, hotel, group size, ages, activity level, and what matters most to you: wildlife, adventure, beaches, waterfalls, volcanoes, culture, photography, or calm nature. We will help you choose what truly fits your trip.

Need Help Choosing?

Send us your dates, hotel area, group size, and the type of experience you want. We can help you choose tours, transfers, boat tickets, rental car options, or a complete Costa Rica route.
