Tour details

Everything you need to understand the experience, what is included and how to prepare before booking.

Experience three very different sides of Guanacaste in one package: volcanic landscapes and hot springs, a wildlife river safari, and a Pacific sunset cruise.

Best of Guanacaste – 3 Tour Package

This package is designed for travelers who want a broad Guanacaste experience without repeating the same kind of day. Instead of choosing between volcanoes, wildlife, and the coast, you experience all three during your stay.

One day takes you inland to the volcanic landscape of Rincón de la Vieja. Another slows the pace down along the Tempisque River in Palo Verde. The third returns you to the Pacific for a relaxed sunset catamaran cruise.

Experience 1: Rincón de la Vieja Volcano & Hot Springs

See the full Rincón de la Vieja tour details.

Your volcano day takes you away from the coast and into one of Guanacaste’s most distinctive inland landscapes. The tropical dry forest changes as you approach the volcanic area, and the signs of geothermal activity become part of the experience.

With a guide, you walk through volcanic trails where fumaroles, steam vents, bubbling mud, sulfur smells, and natural heat reveal that Rincón de la Vieja is an active volcanic system rather than simply a mountain in the distance.

The guide also helps you notice the forest around the geothermal features. Monkeys, coatis, iguanas, birds, and other wildlife are possible depending on the day and natural movement.

After the active portion of the experience, the pace changes. A traditional Costa Rican lunch and time in natural hot springs create a relaxed finish after exploring the volcano.

Why this day matters: Rincón de la Vieja shows a completely different side of Guanacaste from the beaches and gives the package its strongest volcano, forest, and geothermal component.

Rincón de la Vieja Schedule

Standard departure: 7:30 AM from Guanacaste. This is a full-day experience, usually around 9–10 hours including transportation. Green Tours CR confirms the exact pickup details in advance.

Rincón de la Vieja Highlights

  • Guided volcanic trail experience.
  • Fumaroles, mud pots, steam vents, and geothermal scenery.
  • Tropical dry forest and wildlife possibilities.
  • Natural hot springs.
  • Traditional Costa Rican lunch.
  • Transportation included from the standard Guanacaste pickup area under the normal tour conditions.

Experience 2: Palo Verde River Safari

See the full Palo Verde tour details.

Palo Verde changes the rhythm completely. Instead of hiking, you travel by boat along the Tempisque River through wetlands and tropical dry forest, watching the shoreline, trees, and water for wildlife.

Crocodiles resting near the riverbank, howler or white-faced monkeys moving through the trees, iguanas, herons, egrets, kingfishers, raptors, and many other bird species are all part of the ecosystem. The exact sightings change every day, which is what makes the safari a true wildlife experience.

Because most of the observation happens from the boat, Palo Verde works especially well for families, photographers, birdwatchers, older travelers, and anyone who wants to see nature without a strenuous hike.

Why this day matters: Palo Verde adds an easy-paced wildlife day and a completely different ecosystem from the volcano experience.

Palo Verde Schedule

Standard departure: 7:30 AM from Guanacaste. This is a full-day experience, approximately 7–8 hours including transportation. Green Tours CR confirms the exact pickup details in advance.

Palo Verde Highlights

  • Guided Tempisque River boat safari.
  • Excellent opportunities for birds and wetland wildlife.
  • Possible crocodile, monkey, and iguana sightings.
  • Comfortable, relaxed pace.
  • Traditional lunch and local cultural touch.
  • Transportation included from the standard Guanacaste pickup area under the normal tour conditions.

Experience 3: Sunset Catamaran & Snorkeling Cruise

See the full Sunset Catamaran tour details.

The final experience returns you to the Pacific coast and deliberately slows the pace down. You board a shared catamaran for an afternoon on the ocean, leaving the beach behind and seeing Guanacaste from the water.

When sea conditions allow, there is time for swimming and snorkeling. The rest of the cruise is about relaxing, enjoying the coastline, and watching the afternoon light change over the Pacific.

The final stretch is the highlight for many travelers: sunset from the water, with Guanacaste’s coast in the background. It is a strong contrast to the volcano and wildlife days and gives the package a natural finish.

Catamaran note: This is a shared group experience. Transportation is not included and the meeting point is confirmed after booking.

Catamaran Schedule

Afternoon sunset cruise, usually around 4 hours on the water. Beach pickup varies by area and vessel assignment, with final timing confirmed in advance.

How the Package Works

The included activities are operated on separate days and do not need to be consecutive. During the booking process, you will choose the date for each activity and the order in which you would like to experience the tours. This lets you build the package around your own travel schedule instead of following a fixed itinerary.

Choose your days and activity order: When booking this package, select the preferred day for each included tour and decide which activity you would like to do first, second, and—when applicable—third. Your selections are then reviewed against availability and normal operating conditions.

Green Tours CR will follow the dates and order selected during booking whenever available. If weather, park operations, river or ocean conditions, or supplier availability require an adjustment, we will contact you to coordinate the best alternative.

Each tour keeps its normal age limits, mobility requirements, minimum participation rules, inclusions, meeting points, and safety conditions. The advantage of the package is simpler coordination and a better combined price.

Pickup & Transportation

Transportation is included when it is normally included in the individual tour. ATV and the sunset catamaran do not include transportation and keep their normal meeting-point arrangements. If you would like private transportation added for those activities, contact us before booking.

Good to Know Before Booking

  • Weather, park regulations, river levels, ocean conditions, and availability may change the order of activities.
