Miravalles Volcano Tour Experience Guanacaste

The Miravalles Volcano Tour is a full-day mix of nature, volcanic activity, waterfalls, hanging bridges, hot springs, volcanic mud, sauna, and local Costa Rican flavor. It is one of the best options from Guanacaste if you want a complete volcano experience without traveling all the way to La Fortuna.

This tour takes you into the volcanic highlands of Guanacaste, where the landscape becomes greener, cooler, and more rugged. You will explore jungle trails, cross hanging bridges, visit waterfalls, walk through an active geothermal area, and finish with a relaxing volcanic spa experience.

Local guide note:

Miravalles is a great choice for travelers who want a balanced day: not only adventure, not only relaxation, but a little bit of everything — waterfalls, forest, volcano activity, hot springs, volcanic mud, sauna, and a traditional lunch.

What to Expect

Jungle Trails, Waterfalls & Hanging Bridges

The day begins with a scenic journey into the Miravalles area. Once there, your group will choose either a tractor ride or a horseback ride to reach the hanging bridges area. After that, you will explore trails through lush nature, cross hanging bridges, and visit beautiful waterfalls hidden in the volcanic landscape.

Depending on the conditions of the day, there may be time to swim at one of the waterfalls, so bringing a swimsuit and towel is a good idea.

Important activity note:

This tour includes either a tractor ride or a horseback ride to reach the hanging bridges area. Guests can choose the option they prefer, but the whole group must take the same option for the tour to run smoothly.

Geothermal Crater Experience

One of the most unique parts of Miravalles is the geothermal activity. You will walk through an area where the volcano’s natural energy can be seen through bubbling mud, steam vents, sulfur springs, and hot water coming from the earth.

Hot Springs, Mud Bath & Sauna

After the active part of the tour, it is time to slow down and enjoy the volcanic wellness area. Soak in natural hot springs, apply mineral-rich volcanic mud, and relax in a traditional sauna surrounded by the sounds of nature.
